Robins & Morton project receives ‘Best in Healthcare’ designation
BOSTON, Mass. – Engineering News-Record presented Robins & Morton with the Best in Healthcare award for their work on MaineGeneral Medical Center Alfond Center for Health at an awards breakfast in Boston.
The $224 million hospital is located in Augusta, Maine, and is serving as a way to combine two hospitals that were formerly 20 miles apart. The project was completed in 36 months, a full ten months ahead of schedule, by utilizing Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Lean Construction tools and methodologies. With team members working closely with each other, they were also able to return approximately $20 million in value-added savings to the hospital. Ninety percent of the 3,000-person workforce was Maine residents, and 95 percent of the total labor force was from New England.
Sustainability was also a crucial factor to the project. After MaineGeneral Medical Center officially earned a LEED for Healthcare Gold certification earlier this year, Robins & Morton became the only contractor to receive multiple LEED for Healthcare Gold certifications.
“We are honored to receive such an award from ENR,” Senior Project Manager Steve Wiley said. “Without the collaboration with H.P. Cummings Construction, TRO Jung Brannen Architects, and SMRT Architects, none of this would be possible.”
