Robins & Morton Awarded $80 Million Olin Chlor Alkali Membrane Conversion Project

Robins & Morton’s Power and Industrial Division has been awarded an $80 million membrane conversion project by Olin Chlor Alkali Products located in Charleston, Tennessee.

Gary Martin, Robins & Morton senior program manager, said the project will begin immediately and at its peak will employ an estimated 400 construction workers. The project is part of a $160 million technology update of Olin’s Charleston, TN plant announced in December 2010. The membrane conversion project is for Olin’s Chlor-Alkali Division and will expand production capacity of potassium hydroxide, a key ingredient of fertilizers and detergents.  Mr. Martin successfully completed a similar project for Olin in McIntosh, AL in 1996.

Chlor Alkali Products, a segment of Olin Corporation, is the 3rd largest producer of chlor alkali in North America and manufactures chlorine and caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen, potassium hydroxide and bleach products.
