Description: Robins and Morton began construction on the Bacon County Hospital in the summer of 2008. Bacon County Hospital is part of a system of health services for the Bacon County community, located in Alma Georgia. The hospital is part of a medical complex on 11 acres and over 25,000 square feet. Bacon County Hospital is considered a rural critical access hospital, as it has a maximum of 25 acute care inpatient beds and is located more than 35 miles from another hospital.
The construction project consisted of a vertical expansion and extensive renovations to the first floor. The vertical expansion included a 25-bed patient area, made up of 21 private patient rooms and four ICU private patient rooms. The bulk of the expansion was directly over the dining and dietary areas, and part of diagnostic imaging, so meticulous coordination with the facility and keeping the building water tight were the biggest challenges.
Bacon's County Hospital won an Alabama ABC Excellence in Construction, Award of Merit.
