CaroMont Health Critical Care Tower

Project Info

The construction of a second patient tower on the campus of CaroMont Regional Medical Center will expand critical care services for CaroMont Health in an area that sees large patient volumes. The new four-story expansion, currently estimated to open in early 2023, will offer 78 additional patient rooms with a floor plan designed to maximize care delivery and patient experience. The new vertical expansion will be built above an operating surgical suite. Each floor will have patient rooms, support space, staff space and dedicated family space.

The project consists of the construction of a 4-story overbuild of the existing SouthEast Expansion Wing along with two vertical circulation towers (North and South). The existing patient tower will connect to the North Tower by a bridge. Three of the four floors will be built-out as Critical Care Units, leaving the remaining 3rd floor shelled. The overbuild is separated from the existing wing by an interstitial space on the second floor. Located directly below the second-floor interstitial space is the existing Surgical Suite which will remain operational throughout the life of the project.

Along with the primary overbuild there were several locations that presented renovation options to support the operations of the new tower. At the basement level, providing for a conditioned corridor at near public safety would allow for faster delivery of food. On the first floor, providing a new reception desk at the surgical waiting room would provide a new central welcoming area for all family and visitors for both surgery and the new patient tower. In addition, on the first floor, a new imaging suite with CT, X-Ray and future MRI will be located adjacent to the patient tower, this will allow for easier transfer of patients.
