Robins & Morton Marks Topping Out of Methodist Hospital Stone Oak Vertical Expansion

Construction firm Robins & Morton joined Methodist Healthcare System on Nov. 17 to celebrate the topping out of the $104 million vertical expansion and renovation at Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak in San Antonio, Texas.

The topping out ceremony marks a significant milestone, signifying the structural completion of the project.

The two-story, 83,948-square-foot expansion will add ICU and Med Surg beds, while also expanding key support areas including central supply, the lab, and parking. As part of the project, the hospital kitchen will undergo a comprehensive renovation.

“This milestone is more than a construction achievement; it’s an investment in the future of healthcare for San Antonio,” said Michael Beaver, CEO of Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak. “Expanded capacity will allow us to deliver advanced care and adapt to the evolving needs of our patients for years to come.”

The project will add 54 new beds, increasing its total capacity from 245 to 299. This includes the vertical addition of the 5th and 6th floors to the West Tower, with 40 new Med Surg beds on the 5th floor and 14 critical care ICU beds on the 6th. Half of the 6th floor will remain a shell space, allowing flexibility for future growth. With the inclusion of Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak Rehabilitation Center, the hospital’s complete bed count will reach 341.

“This important milestone is the next step in completing this facility that will provide healthcare services to the San Antonio community for many years to come,” Robins & Morton Operations Manager David Skipper said. “We look forward to continuing our work on this project that will have a lasting, positive impact.”

The project is scheduled for completion in late 2026.
