Construction firm Robins & Morton and Cone Health celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new Cone Health MedCenter on Oct. 29 in Asheboro, North Carolina.
The $72 million, 51,500-square-foot facility features an urgent care, primary care, comprehensive cancer center and a pharmacy.
The centerpiece is a $4 million linear accelerator. The device provides radiation treatments with submillimeter accuracy. When combined with equipment ensuring the patient is perfectly positioned, it provides the highest levels of safety, accuracy, and treatment quality. The accelerator is housed in a room made of a special high-density concrete that is 6 ½ feet thick in some places.
“This beautiful facility brings convenient, high-quality health care to this very vibrant, growing part of the Piedmont,” Cone Health Vice President of Oncology and Vice President of the Southern Region Skip Hislop said. “Cone Health wants to bring more services closer to where people live. This facility showcases that intent.”
“We are honored to deliver this facility to Cone Health to help meet the healthcare needs of our growing Asheboro community,” Robins & Morton Operations Manager Steve Wiley said. “We look forward to seeing the lasting, positive impact it will have for decades to come.”
A phased opening of the MedCenter began in fall 2024.
Robins & Morton is the general contractor. Perkins&Will is the architect.
