Robins & Morton Tops Out Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital

Construction firm Robins & Morton and Memorial Healthcare System celebrated the topping out of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital’s vertical expansion in Hollywood, Florida, on Jan. 21.

The topping out milestone recognizes that the construction team has installed the final steel beam of the addition’s structure. To support social distancing measures, the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital team compiled a video of the topping out to share instead of hosting an in-person event.

Once all work is complete in the fall of 2022, the four-floor, 164,038-square-foot expansion will include 72 new patient rooms, two cardiac hybrid operating rooms, two surgical suites and an intraoperative MRI. The four new floors are on top of the existing four-floor facility and it now stands eight stories.

Building on the hospital’s theme, Power of Play, the project also features several play zones and family support areas with amenities such as a fitness center, spa and family dining area. The expansion also includes an elevated outdoor terrace on the fifth floor for patients and families.

“Healthcare construction is rewarding in that we know, when we leave, there will be more care available to the community,” Robins & Morton Vice President Bruce Adams said. “But there’s something even more special about providing these important upgrades for the care of children.”

“Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital has been committed to the care of children for nearly 30 years,” said a spokesperson for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. “We are excited to expand our world-class facility to continue that tradition for our community”

Robins & Morton is serving as the general contractor and the architect is HKS, Inc.
