Description: Emergency Department Expansion and Renovation:
The expansion of the Emergency Department at The Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia vastly improved patient care for the area. The new addition is approximately 40,000 square feet which is 160% more space than the emergency department that was replaced. The new emergency department houses a rapid medical evaluation area, which has three screening rooms, eight exam rooms and one procedure room. It also houses a Trauma unit which has two private rooms and two semi-private rooms, one which is specifically designed for children. An Acute Care area has seventeen regular treatment rooms, two OB rooms, two decontamination rooms, two behavior rooms and five observation/pediatric/private physician rooms. The imaging suite is located adjacent to the trauma unit for rapid evaluation when seconds count. It has two radiology rooms and one computerized tomography room. Five nurse stations are strategically located in the new emergency department. A new patient walk-up entrance canopy gives way to a spacious reception area. On the outside, a new EMS Canopied entrance has enough space to allow four ambulances under the canopy at one time. A new helipad was also constructed and is located adjacent to the EMS Canopy.
