Description: The Wellington Regional Medical Center addition included 80 new private patient rooms, and over 100,000sqft. The addition includes a new outpatient entrance, pharmacy, and administration area. The project team (including design, construction, and owner) has worked together to deliver the project ahead of schedule, under budget, with zero RFI, zero punch list, thru innovations collaborative effort.
Robins & Morton implemented a Lean construction delivery method on the Wellington Regional Medical Center patient tower addition. Through a collaborative effort, the project team saved $4.6 million in cost from the established target value cost. Out of the $4.6 million in savings, the team was able to add $2.5 million in value adds to the project. Robins & Morton also completed the projects two months ahead of schedule. These savings resulted from labor efficiencies, project innovations, and constructability collaboration by the management team.
The overall labor efficiency averaged 80% for the project, better than the industry average of 75% for a well-performing project. Patient restroom and medical gas outlet prefabrication innovation also resulted in cost savings to the owner. The collaborative project approach also provided a positive environment for workers, creating a sense of ownership and accountability for each person involved with the project. This attitude fostered tremendous safety awareness, resulting in zero lost time accidents or near misses on the job.
