Cape Fear Valley Health’s Dorothea Dix Adolescent Care Facility is a single-story, 8,843-square-foot freestanding adolescent psychiatric unit in Lillington, North Carolina. Developed for Cape Fear Valley Health System, the project expands access to dedicated behavioral healthcare services for adolescents in Harnett County and the surrounding region. The facility’s focused scale supports a specialized program while creating a purpose-built setting for patient care, staff operations, and family support.
The project required careful coordination of a behavioral health facility’s distinct functional, safety, and operational needs within a compact footprint. A freestanding, single-story design organized clinical functions, support spaces, circulation, and building systems around the needs of adolescent patients.
For Cape Fear Valley Health, the result is a facility designed to help meet a pressing community need for adolescent behavioral health services. Robins & Morton’s leadership brought a collaborative approach to delivering a specialized care environment, helping translate a concise program into a facility that supports patient dignity, staff effectiveness, and future service delivery.
