Redstone Gateway 8100

Robins & Morton and COPT Defense Properties completed the Redstone Gateway 8100 building in Huntsville, Alabama, delivering a five-story, 125,000-square-foot Class A office building located just outside Gate 9 at Redstone Arsenal. The building is adjacent to the RG8200/RG8300 Northrop Grumman Research and Development campus buildings, also constructed by Robins & Morton, and represents the fourth multi-story tilt-wall building the firm has delivered within the Redstone Gateway office park since 2020. Its completion adds to the growing inventory of Class A leasable square footage near Redstone Arsenal, strengthening the Redstone Gateway development as a premier destination for defense and innovation-focused tenants.

The tilt-wall construction method used on Building 8100 introduced a set of well-documented complexities that demanded precise planning and execution. Multi-story, stacked-panel tilt-wall construction is not typical in the industry, and the team navigated challenges related to panel bracing and handling, crane sizing, tight working spaces, and the sequencing of casting beds on a constrained site. Panel sequencing in particular required the project’s superintendents to work through numerous scenarios to refine the casting, movement, placement, and erection of panels, given the site’s unique orientation and limited room between structures. Robins & Morton self-performed all concrete work, with panels cast onsite and carefully positioned using heavy crane equipment capable of handling panels weighing as much as 240,000 pounds.
