UK King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky, undertook a transformative, multi-phase expansion and renovation to modernize and expand its healthcare capabilities on an active hospital campus. The project encompassed a total of 210,000 square feet, combining 145,000 square feet of new construction with 65,000 square feet of renovation across an eight-story patient tower. The scope included 75 advanced exam and treatment rooms built to accommodate specialty care needs such as trauma, pediatrics, bariatrics, and behavioral health, along with dedicated entrances and private treatment areas to support patient privacy and safety.
One of the most significant challenges on this project was maintaining continuous hospital operations throughout construction on a fully active campus. Robins & Morton addressed this by executing five enabling projects before and during the primary build, ranging from interior buildouts to utility upgrades, to keep critical services running without disruption.
Robins & Morton’s leadership brought the organizational depth and healthcare construction expertise needed to manage a project of this complexity. By partnering with local trade contractors, the team prioritized community investment while maintaining the quality and schedule demands of a high-acuity healthcare environment. The completed facility features a new main entrance and a spacious lobby that connects the emergency department, medical plazas, outpatient surgery, and patient tower, delivering a more intuitive and accessible experience for patients and visitors alike.
