Description: Built over a six month stretch in 1996, the $1.8 million Shades Creek Parkways Office Building originally served as the corporate headquarters of Robins & Morton as well as several other businesses. With KPS Group as the project architect, Robins & Morton constructed the 25,000 sq. ft. office building for The Parkway Group, LLC. In 2008, Robins & Morton became the sole tenant and completed extensive renovations to the building including a new 2,827 sq. ft. training center complete with dedicated gathering, kitchen and reception areas. ABC Alabama selected the project as a winner in the Excellence in Construction Awards in 1996 and 1998.

Shades Creek Parkway Office Building is certified LEED CI v2.0 Gold Certified and was the first Commercial Interiors (CI) project in the state of Alabama to earn Gold certification.

Key Sustainable Construction Practices on this Project:

 Converted to energy efficient features, such as, motion sensor lighting and high efficiency light fixtures.

 Installed low-flow water faucets, 0.5 GPM aerators at every sink, a tankless water heater, and reduced irrigation water requirements.

 Diverted 87% of project waste from landfills through salvage and recycling techniques.

 Utilized materials and products with recycled content averaging 25% recycled content for all products.

 Purchased 85% of products and materials from local manufacturers.

 Capitalized on proximity to neighboring gym and installed a natural pathway between the properties to encourage employee health.

 Agreed to submit the project as a case study for future sustainability education winner of USGBC Alabama’s Clover Award and first-place for ABC’s Green Renovation Project $2-10 Million.
