Birmingham, AL– Robins & Morton was recently named a Certified Green Contractor by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).  ABC’s Green Contractor Certification program recognizes construction companies that implement green practices and principles in the workplace, including headquarters, branch offices and jobsite office complexes.

The process to achieve Green Contractor Certification required fulfilling a series of environmentally-beneficial operational and construction activities; including 12 prerequisites and 12 of 36 elective items. To achieve the certification, Robins & Morton confirmed their compliance with each prerequisite. Prerequisites included establishing an aggressive recycling program, sustainable purchasing efforts, implementing water and power saving strategies in the office, and using non-toxic cleaning products. Robins & Morton also fulfilled 13 of the elective items including implementing an electronics recycling program, holding Earth Day challenges and events, focusing on air quality in office trailers, and requiring sustainable jobsite rules to be posted and enforced on each project site. The certification required compliance with four education and training benchmarks which Robins & Morton achieved by confirming their managers have an average of 8.12 hours of sustainability training and staff personnel have an average of 1.56 hours of sustainability training; both figures exceeding the certification requirement.

The application review, submission review and onsite assessment were performed by a third-party to validate Robins & Morton’s green efforts and to approve their certification.
