Florida Coast Medical Center is a two-story, 186,000-square-foot greenfield acute-care hospital located in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The facility features 54 beds and was constructed using precast concrete skin panels.
The medical center encompasses a broad range of clinical and support spaces, including operating rooms, an emergency department, an intensive care unit, labor and delivery suites, diagnostic imaging, a catheterization lab, a pharmacy, a chapel, and a healing garden, among others.
The project presented several significant site-related challenges that required proactive problem-solving from the outset. Extensive permit delays and complex soil conditions posed obstacles that required careful coordination and creative solutions. The team developed innovative approaches to site utilities and environmental compliance, keeping the project on schedule despite compounding difficulties. Thorough preconstruction and cost management efforts further strengthened the project’s overall delivery.
Robins & Morton’s leadership proved instrumental in navigating the complexity of this project. The early engagement of Robins & Morton’s self-perform concrete and low voltage teams, combined with strong relationships with local trade contractors and the use of innovative scheduling tools, kept work moving forward efficiently. Early BIM coordination and advanced technologies for material tracking contributed to quality outcomes throughout construction. The team also supported the client through inspections and move-in activities, and engaged the surrounding community by donating materials for artificial reefs, reflecting Robins & Morton’s commitment to both project excellence and community stewardship.
